At our recent Annual Member's Meeting, a sixteen year old girl named Brittany spoke about how the YMCA played a significant role in her life. Her family situation didn't afford her and her brother the finances necessary to become a YMCA member; but the Y, through generous people like you, enabled both these youngsters to have Y memberships and attend Camp Knickerbocker. To quote Brittany "Those were great summers. I got to be with friends all day long, in the sun. What kid could ask for anything more?" Even at a young age, Brittany realized the importance of financial assistance. More importantly, she now volunteers at the Y to repay the YMCA for the doors of opportunities opened for her.
The YMCA's goal is to meet the needs of any family whose children would like to attend Camp Knickerbocker, but are financially unable to do so. Your support makes a difference in the YMCA meeting those needs either with a full or partial scholarship. Last year out of 170 campers over 70 of them received assistance. To help the same number of children again season, the Camp Scholarship Drive must raise $50,000. $1800 Sends a middle school youth to Adventure Camp all summer $1300 Sends a youth to Camp Knickerbocker for the summer $ 550 Sends a teen to Counselor in Training camp $ 300 Sends a youth to two weeks of Music Theatre Camp $ 155 Sends a pre-schooler to Scamper Camp for a week. The appeal for camp scholarship money is a separate appeal from the Annual Fund Drive. Both Drives are extremely important to maintain the excellent programs and community outreach efforts the YMCA offers. Please help support the YMCA in providing a safe place for children like Brittany this summer. Your gift will reach beyond one summer; it will carry through a child's life time. |
